New housing crucial to making Harborough a ‘forward-looking’ district
The new chairman of Harborough District Council, Cllr Mike Rook, noted that new housing and new businesses were essential in creating a ‘forward-looking’ district.
He spoke as he took up his new role. “We don’t live in a museum, we live in a thriving community. We have to make sure that that vitality continues” This is only possible he claimed with the right sort of new businesses and the right sort of housing development.
However this statement comes after months of concern over plans for new housing developments within the area.
Many living in the town that the character of Harborough will be changed by large housing estates.
But many residents worry that large housing developments will remove Harborough’s unique character and charm.
One way in which this can be challenged is by self-building. That means you get to decide exactly how your house looks, and shape the face of the town for years to come.
New housing in Harborough
Self building doesn’t mean building the whole house yourself. It usually involves project managing the development. You then bring in builders, electricians etc to work on their part of the project. Working together you create your ‘dream home’
It is often looked on as a great way of putting individual properties back into the market. One way of avoiding endless clone estates. Individual house can be closer to the town centre – fitting between gaps of existing homes or replacing former factories.
And finally it is also often cheaper than buying a new home. WW Brown have been involved with building dozens of new and ‘self build’ homes in Harborough.
