Carnival of Running puts Market Harborough on the map
The first ever Market Harborough Carnival of Running is to be the largest running event that Market Harborough has ever seen, and will form part of the town’s carnival on Saturday June 13th.
The Carnival, sponsored by Market Harborough Building Society, will incorporate a Half Marathon, a 10k, a half marathon corporate relay, and a fun run for children. The various running events will help raise funds for The Squires Effect as well as other charities.
The event is being organised by Race Harborough, who in the past 6 months have staged the Harborough Triathlon and Santa Run events.
“The race will start shortly before the carnival floats come through the town centre, so the hope is that crowds will have gathered to see the parade already and will cheer on the runners”, comments Brian Corcoran. “After that the route takes in the picturesque nearby countryside, including Thorpe Langton. The runners will finish at Symingtons Rec where the carnival parade ends, so again we are hoping for big crowds to cheer the runners home”.
“With last year’s triathlon around 65% of entrants had never taken part in a triathlon before, so we hope that lots of people from Harborough who have not taken part in a road running race will give it a try,” adds Brian.
Details of how to enter can be found at www.raceharborough.co.uk
Race Harborough was formed in 2014 to encourage people in the Harborough area to take part in a range of local outdoor activities. Founders Amy Handford and Brian Corcoran have a full list of events planned for 2015 as well as the Carnival of Running. These include the first Harborough Festival of Cycling scheduled later this month, plus the second Harborough Triathlon and a second Santa Run.
