Leicestershire leads 7 year peak in new-build homes

Government figures have shown that more new-build homes were started across England in 2014 than in any other year since 2007.

Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire were noted as areas that had experienced high levels of starts.

137,010 new homes were started in 2014 – a 10% increase on 2013. 118,760 homes were completed. However, concerns were raised that this number is still around half the amount needed to cope with demand in the UK.

Private enterprise starts were noted to have risen by 13% compared with the previous year, whilst housing association starts decreased by 10%.
