Plans for 1,500 new homes in Harborough debated
Three major planning applications to create over 1,500 new homes in Harborough will be discussed at a planning meeting on Monday 2nd March.
The meeting of Harborough District Council’s planning committee will tackle the applications for development at Airfield Farm and the adjoining land between the Farm and Lubenham.
Market Harborough’s Civic Society has already challenged the applications, which it notes ‘will be the largest development in the history of Market Harborough’. A statement from the civic society says: “The civic society supports the construction of about 1,000 houses on the main airfield site”, however the society has stated that 1,500 homes would be too many and that “we are concerned the road structure and other facilities in the town will not be able to cope.”
The discussion around the proposals comes months after Harborough District Council announced that they were not meeting their annual housing target, and that planning applications for the district will now be “treated more sympathetically to try to raise the build rate.”
